Next up in our occasional series of “meet your bankers” interviews: Stephanie Meade, who joined our team just last month as director of sustainability and marketing.
What she does
As director of sustainability, Stephanie oversees both our internal and our external sustainability programs, including the assessment that clients undergo when applying for a loan. As director of marketing, Stephanie explores ways to reach new customers and provide relevant, compelling information to current customers.
What she likes about it
“I like that this job has the potential to really make an impact, and that everything I do here is for a good purpose,” says Stephanie. “It’s incredibly satisfying to be in a place where my personal beliefs are mirrored in my job.”
How it all started
After earning a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University, Stephanie worked on water and wastewater projects in developing countries, where she saw up close how much both environmental and economic security matter. Her career took her all over the world, from Yemen and Brazil to Germany and Armenia. She loved the travel and new experiences, but after having her first child, she wanted to be more rooted. Stephanie was intrigued by emerging markets finance, which she’d studied in grad school, and decided to give finance a try. This led to jobs at a hedge fund and a private equity firm.
In her job at New Resource, Stephanie has created a bridge between the two worlds she’s straddled in her career. “I never quite felt that traditional finance was a fit for me,” she says. “But working in sustainable finance very much is. It brings my career full circle to the work I did in environmental and economic development earlier on.”
Life outside the bank
When she’s not at the bank, Stephanie spends time with her two children and manages InCultureParent.com, her online magazine dedicated to raising globally minded kids.
Yoga, hiking and learning languages. Stephanie speaks Spanish, Portuguese and French, and is studying Arabic.
