Penelope Douglas joins New Resource Bank Board of Directors

SAN FRANCISCO—New Resource Bank is pleased to announce the appointment of Penelope Douglas to our Board of Directors.

“Penelope is a pioneer and thought leader in the area of community venture capital and is an excellent addition to our board,” said New Resource Chairman of the Board Mark Finser. “She not only has significant experience in business, but also has a long and successful track record of leadership in community-based organizations. She’s known for her focus on creativity and human resources, along with bottom-line results.”

Douglas co-founded and served as CEO of the first West Coast community venture fund: Pacific Community Ventures, a nonprofit that provides business advisory services, a resource network, and equity financing for small businesses that benefit economically underserved communities throughout California. She currently chairs the boards of both Mission HUB LLC, a Bay Area workspace and community for social entrepreneurs, and SOCAP (Social Capital Markets), an annual event series that connects investors, foundations, institutions and social entrepreneurs who are working to address global challenges.

“I am very excited to join the board of New Resource Bank, which is well positioned to prove that lending to sustainable businesses and nonprofits brings sustainable financial returns as well as a lasting positive impact on people and our planet,” said Douglas.

Douglas has also applied her strategic acumen and dedication to social change as an executive at Morrison & Foerster, Odwalla, Ernst & Young and Wells Fargo, and as a board leader at New Mexico Community Capital, Larkin Street Youth Center and Juma Ventures.

She has been featured by media outlets, including NPR, the New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and California magazine, which recognized her as a pioneer of “compassionate capitalism.” In addition, she received the Robert A. McNeely Trailblazer Award from Community Financial Resource Center, a nonprofit community development financial institution that assists historically underserved residents and small business owners in Los Angeles County.
